What's The Purpose For Planking?

According to wiki "Planking" is the act of lying face down with arms to the sides of the body, in unusual public spaces and photographing it. The term "planking" was coined in Australia and became a "Fad" in 2011.  Some people  are saying "Planking" has it roots in slavery I'm sorry  personally   I don't believe that  to be true. Nor do I  see a connection in any way to slavery.

I’ve seen a number of pictures all over facebook, and it makes me wonder what is it  about us humans and our culture that makes us craves this kind of silliness and foolishness?  So when I found a pic of Gospel Rapper Lecra  partaking in this foolishness I'm thinking what is it that  make  people act the fool?  There's nothing wrong with it!! Neither is there any redeeming  purpose  for it either.  I don't have anything against it but  I’m just wondering what gives? When you find Christians following the world with this kinda foolishness you have to ask what gives? Again there is no religious, political,  economics nor social purpose in this act at all. So what's the purpose for Planking?

Comments

  1. I've been reading about this on Twitter and at certain blogs. The challenge is to do this in the most foolish places, like a conveyor belt of the supermarket check-out, on park benches, between refrigerator and countertop (if they face each other) and I even saw one picture of a young woman planking with her feet on the wall or door of her bathroom and her face in the toilet bowl.

    When I think of the times we live in, Sodom and Gomorrah can't compare in any way shape or form.

  2. It's just like AnnaRenee said. And like you said, silly foolishness. It's a challenge to do it publicly and get it photograhed in goofy places. The slavery connection is because of how the slaves were placed on ships with arms down at their sides to stuff as many on as possible.

  3. Really?! Planking is on the same level as the acts that caused God to destroy Sodom & Gomorrah??

  4. Well, I said when I think of the times we live in today, Sodom and Gomorrah cant compare.

    It's not planking alone, I never said that, but as Ann has so aptly conveyed to us, it's the times--the cumulative effect of so many ridiculous, scandolous, murderous, hatefilled, racist, rape filled, brokenness, anger filled, theiving, government crumbling, anti God, blasphemous, confused Christians, lust filled, money hungry, sex crazed, women getting breast implants, men getting calf implants, self hating, control freaks.... whew! Let me catch my breath...Sodom and Gomorrah can't possibly compare.

    That was all I was saying.

  5. One would think that we ought to never be copying such a thing as how slaves were packed in slave ships. Why recreate such a condition?

    Foolishness, the new "smart"

  6. Well its purpose is no purpose its just a stupid thing that people do. I have taken a couple of pictures and its almost like a sport (to me). You have to have some very good abs muscles to pull of the very good planks. I find it challenging and fun.

    The comparison to Sodom and Gomorrah is way over the top...

    Homosexuality is what set God off....

    And that is what brings us (America) into the same conversation as Sodom and Gomorrah. Not planking....

  7. homosexuality wasnt what set god off...it was the fact that he could not find not 1 righteous soul

  8. You're incorrect Sanginggirl. Have you not read:

    No One Is Righteous

    9What then? Are we Jews any better off? No, not at all. For we have already charged that all, both Jews and Greeks, are under sin, 10as it is written:

    "None is righteous, no, not one;
    11no one understands;
    no one seeks for God.
    12All have turned aside; together they have become worthless;
    no one does good,
    not even one."
    13 "Their throat is an open grave;
    they use their tongues to deceive."
    "The venom of asps is under their lips."
    14 "Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness."
    15 "Their feet are swift to shed blood;
    16in their paths are ruin and misery,
    17and the way of peace they have not known."
    18 "There is no fear of God before their eyes."

    No one is righteous before God's eyes. The only righteousness that God sees is the righteousness of Christ.

    "Then the LORD said, "Because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great and their sin is very grave, 21 I will go down to see whether they have done altogether according to the outcry that has come to me. And if not, I will know." Genesis 18:20-21

    It was their sin that cried out to Him.

    The righteousness that was referred to by God in Genesis were those like Lot and Abraham whose hope was in the Lord.

  11. LaPreghiera thanks for the comment. I can tell from your comment you've read the article that claim it has something to do with homosexuality. Right?!?

  12. Bradvision thanks for the comment. I disagree in a respectable way with you and any one else who claim God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah because of homosexuality.
    It was destroyed because of sin period! and not just for one particular sin.

  13. Sangingirl thanks for your comment I agree. It was destroyed because of sin.

  14. Brdavision I'm sorry but I can't picture you planking.

  17. I do agree with you that it's foolishness, lol. And I don't have a problem with it, I just find it to be a meaningless game. I also believe that comparing this to slavery is "reaching" at it's finest. There are absolutely no LEGITIMATE articles or anything else to support that comparison. Before, when it was called "The Lying Down Game", we didn't hear a peep & could care less about it. Now that it's become something popular in America, and African Americans are now participating in it also, it has roots to slavery...Unbelievable!

    A childish game? Yes, to many. But to say it has anything to do with slavery is information based on information that no one has.
